Marathon and Half Marathon Club

Thinking about running your first marathon or half marathon?

Signing up to a Half or Full Marathon can be a daunting prospect, even if you’ve run one before.  The expectation we put on ourselves, dedicating the time to train and knowing how to train for it can put us off even giving the idea a proper go.

But what if you could share the training  with an incredible group of women, all with the same goals of wanting to feel confident when taking those first steps over the start line? It’s a no-brainer.

We trialled this group in Summer/Autumn 2021 for the lead-up to the Scottish Half in September with great success.

What’s the plan?

For the full marathon we will all follow a 16 week plan and for the half marathon a 12 week plan.

The plan is sent to you via a training app, which allows you to sync with Strava.  You will see 3 weeks of training at a time so that you can plan your weeks ahead.  You will have the ability to make small movements throughout the week to your plan, because, well, life gets in the way and we need to be able to adapt to stay on top of training.

Once a week there will be a group session bringing everyone together.  This is normally for those tough, focused sessions, like hill reps and speed intervals that we all tend to avoid.  These are the sessions that really help you to progress with running, to get you closer to your goals.

As we get to know each other you will be able to arrange your long runs and plan routes with some or all of the group to keep the momentum going.

Half Marathon Club

I absolutely loved the We Run Edinburgh half marathon club. Lynette is incredibly knowledgable, approachable, supportive and flexible. She encourages and empowers you to do your best, even and especially when life gets in the way. And more than running, Lynette facilitates a beautiful community of women supporting women to be mentally and physically fit. Thank you!

This 12 week plan showed me there is more to running than clocking up the miles! The plan was fun and manageable alongside daily life. Lynette was always there to answer any queries and the preparation made race day a great and enjoyable experience. Will definitely be signing up for another 1/2 marathon again soon!
